Ormond Beach Dentist, Dr. Drake

We all know how important it is to brush our teeth regularly. You should brush and floss your teeth at least twice a day to keep them healthy and white, along with visiting your dentist every six months. What happens when you don’t have your toothbrush with you though? We are busy people and sometimes things can get left behind. You can go on vacation or on a business trip and find that you left your toothbrush at home. Well, you could just go buy one but do you really want to right this minute? You just traveled all day and finally got to rest at your hotel. The good news is you don’t have to run out and get a toothbrush tonight, you can do a few other things to help take care of your teeth until you do go get a new toothbrush. These are not a perfect solution to good dental care, though they can be used with brushing and flossing to help take care of your teeth.

If you find yourself needing to brush your teeth without the proper utensils to do it with, look at these alternatives.

  • Rinse with Water: Take a nice big drink of water, swish it around a bit, and spit it back out into the sink. This will help to remove any food particles in your mouth that can stick to teeth.
  • Use a Cloth: If you don’t have your toothbrush you can always use a cloth or towel. Just wet the cloth and run it over your teeth while quick. It won’t be as good as a toothbrush, but it will work for now. If you did remember toothpaste you can put some on it as well.
  • Eat Crunchy Vegetables: Hard vegetables can help to scrape food particles and other things off of your teeth, so grab a carrot and chow down. Some crispy fruits can help too, like apples.
  • Eat Cheese: While it’s not really for cleaning your teeth, hard cheese can help fight the bacteria in your mouth that can cause bad breathe.
  • Avoid Sugar: Sugar is bad for our teeth, and the more we have the worse it gets. Avoid sugar if you are not going to be able to brush your teeth for a while.

You could also miss brushing your teeth for one session, just don’t make it a habit and make sure to get it the next time around. Just missing one time when you brush regularly isn’t going to really cause a lot of problems. Especially not if you visit your local Ormond Beach dentist to get your teeth checked out every six months, so don’t panic too much if you forget your toothbrush. There are always ways to get around it until you can get a new one.
