Stick to the Basics

Maybe one of the most popular quotes people use is “If it’s not broken, don’t fix it”. This, of course, means that if something works just fine, there is no real reason to change it. This is especially true in the world of dentistry. We say this because there are always articles floating around Facebook about alternative medical treatments including dental ones. They say that you should eat some form of “super food” that will whiten teeth or that “She brushed her teeth with this, you won’t believe what it did for her” or our personal favorite, “Dentists hate this guy they have never heard of”. The problem with many of these is they don’t have any support from any official institute stating that they are effective or that they are even safe.

It can be hard to tell which of these alternative medicines and dental care articles are telling the truth or reaching for your wallet. There is one simple way to figure out which you should follow and which you shouldn’t. In the words of these articles, “You won’t believe the results you can get from doing these two simple things”.

  1. Brush and floss your teeth
  2. Schedule a check-up once every six months

Pretty basic instructions you have heard a million times, aren’t they? That is because they have proven to be effective by dentists all over the world. They might be basic and cliche’ but they got that way because they work. You don’t have to do a lot of research and hope that whatever product you are researching works. Millions have been doing it for years and it has been clinically proven effective.

Now we are not saying that any of these products that pop up on your Facebook are real or not. We are simply saying that you don’t need them if you stick to the basics. Brush your teeth and floss twice a day, schedule a regular appointment with your Ormond Beach dentist, and use your time on Facebook connecting with friends and liking cat pictures instead of following questionable trends.
